Vigur Island

Vigur Island

Frequently Asked Questions

How long is the tour?

The tours to Vigur are 3-hour long.

Will I make it back on time for my cruise ship?

At the departure at 14:30 the boat will be back to Ísafjörður at 17:30. However, usually passengers need to be on board at least one hour before the departure time of their cruise ship. It means that they won’t be able to make it in time.

Vigur is a privately owned island, which means that the owners have the final say in how many guests they can welcome at a given time. As the island is small in size, there are limitations on the number of visitors that can be sent there. This is because having too many people on the island can spoil the experience for guests.
Additionally, the boats used to transport guests to Vigur are also utilized for other purposes, such as boating plans in Hornstrandir and other organized trips. As a result, it is not always possible to find a boat that is available at the exact time that suits the passengers of the cruise ship.

Will I be back in time for my cruise ship's departure?

If your tour ends at 4:00 PM and your ship departs at 5:00 PM, it may be risky as you're required to be on board typically an hour before departure. To ensure you're back in time without stress, consider the ship's final boarding time before booking the tour.

Vigur Island is privately owned and has limitations on the number of visitors to preserve the quality of the experience. Additionally, the boats used for the tours are often booked for other trips, limiting availability for additional slots.

Can we arrange an extra departure for a large group?

For groups larger than 10, please email us at booking@iceland-highlights.com with your visit details. We'll try to accommodate your request, keeping in mind the visitor limits to ensure a quality experience.

Is the tour accessible for people with mobility difficulties?

This tour involves walking on uneven paths and is not recommended for individuals with mobility difficulties or those who use wheelchairs.

How will I find the guide at the port? Our guide will meet you at Sjóferðir - Ásgeirsgata, Isafjordur Pier. Directions and a map link will be provided in your booking confirmation.

What if my cruise can't dock?

In cases where your cruise cannot dock, our standard cancellation policy applies. Please consult your travel insurance for coverage details.

What happens if the tour is canceled?

If we cancel the tour due to adverse weather or other unforeseen circumstances, you'll be notified via email with an option to reschedule. If rescheduling isn't possible, you'll receive a full refund.

Why did the tour price change since I last checked?

Prices may vary based on currency exchange rates. The prices in ISK remain constant, but equivalent prices in other currencies may fluctuate.

What is the cancellation policy for this service?

Cancellations made 2 days or less before the event incur a 100% cancellation fee. Cancellations made 7 days or less before the event incur a 53.5% fee. For cancellations made 500 days or less before the event, a 13.5% fee applies. A 3.5% merchant fee is also applied.

By addressing these inquiries clearly and concisely, potential customers can easily understand and plan their visit, leading to a smoother customer experience.
